tales from the cookie jar archive July 2008. Summer is just around the corner! That’s an expression that we hear quite often here at Sugar & Spice. The bakery, our home away from home, is located in Evanston , IL , just north of Chicago and not even a 5 minute walk from Lake Michigan . Even in July, walking in the neighborhood can be a challenge. Buffeted by the winds blowing off the lake, with temperatures hovering well below the 80s that we should have, we comfort each other with that refrain about summer being just…..around…..the…….corner. Sometimes it’s an awfully long corner to turn! At Sugar & Spice, we know firsthand how the best things in life take time and patience. You taste the fruits of our labors in the decadence of our brownies, sweet breads, and scones; our pound cakes and coffee cakes are rich beyond compare. We painstakingly hand-scoop each mouth-watering cookie, no matter the time or effort required.
